One-Year Limited Warranty on Unfinished Doors Version 1

Five-Year Warranty on Factory Pre-Finished Interior Doors

D & I Doors are warranted to be of sound material and workmanship and to be free of defects that cause the door to be unfit for ordinary recommended use for the period of twelve (12) months from the date of shipment. In addition, interior doors that have been pre-finished by D & I Doors are warranted for an additional four (4) years. This extended warranty applies only to the construction of the door, and not the factory pre-finish itself. See D & I Door’s “Care & Finishing Instructions” for details on finish maintenance.

If a defect occurs within one year from the date of shipment, written notice of the defect must be provided to D & I Door. Buyer shall not return any goods until D & I Door has been provided a reasonable opportunity to inspect the goods at Buyer’s premises to determine whether a defect exists. D & I Door will not be liable for any doors repaired, returned, or replaced without prior written consent. If warranted doors contain defects covered under this limited warranty, D & I Door shall be limited to, at D & I Door’s option, 1) repairing or replacing the doors or 2) refunding the purchase price of the doors to Buyer. Doors will be repaired or replaced in the same stage of fitting and/or finishing as they were originally supplied. D & I Door will not pay any cost to remove defective doors or to install new doors, and will not be responsible for any finishing costs or consequential damages. Final warranty inspection will be made at D & I Door’s location, upon receipt of defective product. If the claim is found by D & I Door, in its sole discretion, to be invalid, neither repair/replacement nor refund will be issued.

Exclusions from Warranty

This limited warranty does NOT apply to any of the following:

Doors and other products (such as sidelites and transoms) more than 8′ tall or 3′6″ wide: (Note: For double doors 8′ tall and for all doors greater than 8′ tall or 3′6″ wide, D & I Door strongly suggests multi-point locking hardware to protect against warp)
Doors that have warp that does NOT exceed 1/4″ in the plane of the door: (see below)
Doors less than 1-3/4″ thick for exterior use
Doors that have not been properly sealed on all six sides within 14 days of delivery, including the top and bottom edges of the door
Damage caused by failure to comply with D & I Door’s “Care & Finishing Instructions”
Damage due to improper or incorrect installation
Exterior doors used in a commercial application
Damage caused by others or by any cause beyond the control of D & I Door: including, but not limited to, damage caused by misuse, abuse, accident, mishandling or by fire, flood, earthquake, storm, tornado or other acts of nature
Misuse of a door including, but not limited to, using a door in an exterior application without adequate overhang: (Note: Adequate overhang depends on the typical weather conditions of the site where the building is located, but generally means an overhang projecting a distance away from the door at least equal to one-half the elevation difference between the bottom of the door and the base of the overhang structure, measured at the highest point of the overhang structure, and at least 6′ wider than the door unit, including sidelites and transoms; at least 3′ overhang on each side).
Doors and other products with black finishes on exterior surfaces: (Note: To reduce the chance of warping or checking, D & I Door strongly discourages dark-colored finishes on exterior surfaces, especially if the door is exposed to direct sunlight)
Doors and other products with clear coat finishes on exterior surfaces
Discoloration or rusting of decorative metal accents: (clavos, grilles, strap hinges, etc.)
Damage due to trimming the door more than 1/2″ from the top or 1-1/2″ from the bottom of the slab
Panel movement or shrinkage: (Note: Panels in D & I Doors are designed to “float,” and will expand or contract in response to environmental conditions)
Expansion or contraction due to varying environmental conditions: such as temperature and humidity
Gates, or doors used in gate applications
The appearance of any field-finished door

Warp Definition and Measurement

For the purposes of this warranty, warp is defined as any distortion in the door itself and does not refer to the relationship of the door to the frame or jamb in which it is hung. The term “warp” includes bow, cup, and twist. In measuring the amount of warp in a door, the following method shall be used: Bow, cup, and twist shall be measured by placing a 7′ straightedge on the suspected concave face of the door at any angle with the door in its installed position. The measurement of warp shall be made at the point of maximum distance between the bottom of the straightedge and the face of the door.

If the claimed defect is warp, D & I Door may defer replacing or refunding the door for a period of up to twelve (12) months from the date of claim or date of installation, in order to permit conditioning and equalizing to humidity and temperature conditions. The deferral period will not be counted against the one-year warranty period.

In addition, the following natural properties and characteristics add to the beauty of wood doors and are not considered defects:

On all knotty-grade wood species, knots that show light or underlying substrate through the door will be filled, and knots that do not show light or substrate through the door and are not filled should be expected and are not considered defects (Note: On knotty wood species, the location, quantity, and size of knots is unpredictable and uncontrollable)
On all knotty-grade wood species, cracks in the surface of the wood are a natural characteristic and are not considered defects, unless light or underlying substrate shows through the crack
On all select-grade wood species, knots less than the size of a quarter are acceptable and are not considered defects
On all wood species, natural variations in the color, texture, and density of the wood are common and such variations are not considered defects
On wire brushed doors, an inconsistent face plane where stiles or mullions meet rails is acceptable to a depth change of 1/16″, and an apparent open connection between stiles and rails is acceptable to a width of 1/32″
Surface checks of up to 1/32″ in width are not considered defects (Note: Such surface checks do not compromise the structural integrity of the door)

Glass-Related Warranty

For doors with glass, glass units/lites are warranted according to the glass manufacturer’s warranty. The following items related to glass units/lites are not considered defects:

Defects or scratches in the glass as a result of handling or installation
Defects as a result of product modifications or glass shading devices (e.g., glass tinting, security systems, improper painting or staining, insulated coverings, etc.)
Water infiltration of the glass, other than as a result of a defect in manufacturing, materials, or workmanship
Condensation in the glass
Slight glass curvature, minor scratches, or other imperfections in the glass that do not impair structural integrity or significantly obscure normal vision
Broken glass, other than as a result of manufacturing or shipping damage

D & I Door. Limited One-Year Warranty Version 2

For a period of one year from the date of shipment to the original buyer, D & I Door warrants each door (or product) it manufactures (except those expressly excluded herein) to be of good material and workmanship and free from defects that would render such door unserviceable or unfit for the ordinary, recommended use.

Characteristics Excluded From These Warranties

The following are not defects in the workmanship or materials and are not covered by this written warranty:

Damage caused by failure to comply with the handling, storage, finishing, installation, and maintenance instructions contained herein. Including but not limited to damage caused by improper handling or on-site storage.
Damage caused by installing a wood door without adequate overhang protection. The door must be protected with an overhang that projects outward at least 1/2 of its height. Example: If the height of the overhang is 10 feet, the projection of the overhang must be a minimum of 5 feet.
Installing a wood door in prolonged direct sunlight, as typically found in south or southwest-facing exposure. A wood door must not receive more than 4 hours of direct sunlight each day.
Damage caused by using dark-colored stain or paint on exterior surfaces exposed to direct sunlight.
Doors that have unbalanced materials or finish, (i.e., oak on one side and poplar on the other or stain inside and paint outside).
Damage caused by failing to properly seal and finish all six sides of the door (including top and bottom edges) with at least 2 top coats of high-grade finishing materials in accordance with the paint/stain manufacturer’s instructions. Do not use lacquer-based toner or finish on any exterior door under any circumstance.
Natural variations in the color or texture of wood, including variations in the appearance of factory distressing.
Panel misalignment or shrinkage of 1/8″ or less is not considered a defect. Panels are designed to float and temperature or humidity changes may cause the wood panels to shrink, leaving an unstained line along the panel edge.
Damage caused by temperature buildup when a storm door is utilized.
Surface checks, miter joints, and other wood joint shrinkage shall not be considered a defect unless such exceeds 1/32″ in width.
Expansion and contraction of door panels are not considered a defect.
Damage caused by attempts other than High Plains to repair the door.
Damage caused by others or by any cause beyond the control of High Plains, including, but not limited to, damage caused by misuse, abuse, accident, mishandling, or by fire, flood, earthquake, storm, tornado, or other acts of nature.
Any door that is installed in a building that has not been properly ventilated, allowing excessive moisture or heat to build up.
Doors more than 8′ tall or 3′6″ wide.
Warp not exceeding 1/4″ in the plane of the door itself. Doors must be allowed to condition to the average prevailing relative humidity of the locality before fitting and hanging.
The appearance of field-finished doors is excluded from this warranty.

How to Make a Warranty Claim

D & I Doors maximum liability is the purchase price of the product. The claimant must establish the original purchase date by producing the original bill of sale or other documents showing the date of purchase. The claimant must send a description of the defect and the terms under which it occurred to D & I Door, in writing.

Disclaimer of Other Warranties

This warranty constitutes D & I Doors sole and exclusive warranty. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, and all other obligations or liabilities on the part of D & I Door. D & I Door neither assumes nor authorizes any person to assume for D & I Door any other obligations or liability in connection with D & I Door products.

Limitation of Liability

In no event shall D & I Door be liable for consequential or incidental damages.
